Northern Ireland’s biggest youth theatre production brings the blockbuster family musical, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, to life on the Grand Opera House stage from Thursday 16 July 2026.

The Theatre’s annual summer youth production, sponsored by Aircoach for the second year running, will feature a cast of more than 120 talented young performers, selected from over 500 who registered for auditions.

Following the previous sell-out successes of Sunset Boulevard and GREASE starring 16-21 year olds, this year’s production welcomes participants, aged 10-18, back to the Theatre’s stage for the first time since Oliver! in 2023.

Produced by the Grand Opera House Trust and supported by a professional creative team and the Theatre’s technical department, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a fully staged, costumed and choreographed musical like no other, accompanied by a live orchestra.

Audiences will join eccentric inventor Caractacus Potts as he sets out to bring a broken-down racing car back to life with the help of his children, Jeremy and Jemima. Soon discovering that this is no ordinary car, and along with Truly Scrumptious and Grandpa Potts, they take off on a fun-fuelled, magical adventure. Fans of the much-loved musical will delight in classic songs including Toot SweetsHushabye Mountain and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

In preparation for the production, participants will undergo two weeks of intensive rehearsals before stepping into the spotlight for five unmissable performances from Thursday 16 to Saturday 18 July 2026.

Grand Opera House Chief Executive, Ian Wilson said: “Now in its 14th year, the summer youth production is widely recognised as one of the biggest of its kind in the UK and Ireland, offering young people the unique opportunity to perform on the iconic Grand Opera House stage. For the first time in three years, we welcome back younger performers from the age of ten, for an unforgettable experience in a spectacular production showcasing the stars of the future.
